The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.
But my boss is Christian... I also grew up in a religious household where grooming was emphasized... I don’t recall any book in the New Testament where Jesus was scolded for his flowing hair and wilderness beard. But shit, if they open the checkbook, I’m down.
(No, I am not pictured above).

Shorter hair is less work. I like to just buzz mine once or twice a month.

I actually read the Bible daily and just came across a part towards the end of 1 Corinthians (that’s “One Corinthians” for Trump fans) that was all about long hair being for women. But from what I know, it was Paul writing to people specifically in the context of Corinthian customs at that particular time and place. So while I still consider the Bible to be a source of universal truth, that doesn’t mean you can cherry-pick little pieces scripture and pretend it’s universal to all times and places. That editing is way too common for both Christians and non-Christians alike. Far better to share the context than to quote some memorized passages.
Edit: 1 Cor 11 - emphasis mine on the “local custom” issue. If you don’t include that, it sounds like a commandment.
14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair, it is degrading to him, 15 but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if anyone is disposed to be contentious—we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

I fear of the day I might have to cut my beautiful flowing locks.
But that day is not today.

Always remember, when Jesus was teaching, Paul was busy torturing Christians to death.

I know that feel bro, I have an internship interview on Saturday and will probably have to get rid of all of mine if they choose to hire me. Got a haircut today to clean it up a bit and even just getting three inches off felt so wrong :(
Why won’t society let us keep our beautiful flowing locks.

I feel your pain, bro. I’m on the job hunt myself and even though I live in a surfer town down here in FL, I’m sure the length of my hair doesn’t help. Mine must be getting on 18 inches or so.
Oh, well. I usually get my head buzzed down to a #2 and then just grow it out for a couple of years. Might be time to repeat the cycle.

I wonder what kind other things they might try to require if they start with the hair...
I’m the only long haired dude of our building at work. The other took a long period of unpaid leave and went to Bolivia. The third one just gave up one year ago and wears “proper hair” now.
I don’t really love my hair but I noticed that having long hair is a good way to look always the same. When I had short hair I really hated it when anyone said to me “you have gotten your hair cut”. Now no-one notices if I shorten it slightly.

what do you make of the line
“
her hair is given to her for a covering
“
I admit I don’t know my ancient history so well, so maybe this should be obvious.

This is a tough line — the English translations jump around a bit in their context and I don’t know ancient Greek :D
The context would likely have been the early Christian church, which still kept a lot of Jewish traditions (something Paul addresses elsewhere in the Corinthian letters). So it’s almost like saying “ A woman’s long hair is a pretty fancy headcovering, don’t you think? Sure beats a yarmulke, amiright? ”

I always forget the cultural significance of hats even considering how recently it became less common.
